Are you frustrated with the quality of your countertop drinking water?
By T. Barrett
If you are like me then the answer would be a resounding yes. A few years ago I began experimenting with water filtration systems, bottled and distilled water. I have found the most effective and convenient countertop water filtration system available.
Countertop water filtration systems are the most convenient and economical method in obtaining good quality tasting water. Unlike bottled water, which does not face much scrutiny, home water filtration systems are heavily regulated in the United States as well as many other counties.
Distilled water, while an effective method for removing contaminants, also removes many nutrients in the water such as calcium that is needed by the human body.
Many countertop water filtration systems come with their own faucet fixture located under the sink, however, there are those systems that attach directly to an existing faucet and only require the user to flip a lever to obtain the filtered water.
From my experience, I would recommend using a separate faucet for your filtration purposes. Having separate spouts for drinking and other kitchen uses. This will allow much easier use and a better overall appearance. For example, while cooking one can turn on a separate filtered faucet.
This would make it easier than turning the main faucet and struggling to remember which lever to switch to for the filtered water. A separate faucet is often taller than the traditional kitchen faucets and provides easy access when filling large pots or bowls with water. It may seem like a minor detail but can be a major inconvenience in everyday use.
Using separate faucet systems also tend to be easier to replace. Using filter cartridges to replace an old filter is easier than those that have attached counterparts. Replacing an attached water filter usually involves too much physical strength to unscrew the system off the primary faucet as well as the use of tools.
The separated faucet system, however, performs it filtration task under the counter. This means that the filtration replacement is performed by simply opening a box. Installation of the under counter systems can be a bit more tricky but not impossible.
Whatever countertop filtration water system you use it is important to regularly maintain the filter by replacing it every 3-6 months. This minor detail is crucial to the performance of the water filtration system and can lead to overall better heath including skin tone.

The Importance of Using Home Water Purifiers and Filters
With an aging water infrastructure and breakdowns becoming more common, home water purifiers and filters are increasing in importance. You are the last line of defense against contaminated water. Even "safe" municipal systems contain escalating levels of chlorine, which can make you sick, and may contain contaminants that, while safe, have an unpleasant odor and/or taste. If you start using a home water purifier, however, you can spare yourself the worry about problematic water supplies and start supplying your home with inexpensive bottled-quality water.

Think about this when considering home water purifiers and filters: more and more today, we hear about critical infrastructure problems, like steam pipes in New York City exploding or bridges collapsing. The reason is simple: most of our infrastructure is at least fifty years old, and was not designed to last forever. The problem is, while collapsed bridges and explosions and floods all create news headlines, the creeping dangers of contaminated water is not dramatic, and will likely not gain much media attention until the problem reaches a crisis level. How can you tell? You may notice that your water smells of chlorine more...
